This contemporary symbolic art was created by contemporary symbolic artist Dawn Gaskill using the ancient Greek technique of encaustic. First Dawn makes her medium with pure beeswax and tree resin…. she uses powdered pigments from all over the world….to custom mix and create all her colors. Then painting thin glaze like layers of the hot colored medium and heat fusing each layer….she slowly builds the luminous and ethereal images…sometimes utilizing collage to embed special items, prints of her paintings or powerful images she has found into her paintings. Then layer by layer building the symbols and textures…..to accomplish the final result…..luminous, iridescent, textured, ethereal and powerful remembrances of the past.
